Corporate Theatre

“As you can see from the evaluation forms you were a major hit…
every single one had marked the theatre company as ‘excellent’. Can’t say fairer than that!
The sketches were exactly right and punctuated the speaker’s sessions so that there was no boredom factor and people really looked forward to the next part of the day.
I was thrilled with the whole thing!”
Karin Dawson, Health Promotion Specialist, Shropshire Primary Care Trust

At Chain Reaction, we know that companies and organisations sometimes struggle to find new, exciting, engaging ways to deliver information and training to their staff. So often new policy developments or training strategies are delivered in a stuffy, formal way that does little to engage, let alone inspire, the audience.

This is where Chain Reaction’s uniquely entertaining approach can help. We create bespoke shows that are ideal for performance at conferences, workshops or training events. We take serious subjects and incorporate your key messages and facts with creative comedy, drama and song, to create inspirational and engaging pieces of theatre that have real impact on your staff and clients and really focus them on the subject in hand.

Our popular theatre performances have a proven track record not just in schools but at a wide range of professional educational, health and training events across Britain. We have a wide client base including health care professionals, teachers, community workers, police and the Judiciary.

We have addressed key conference themes including mental health for health care professionals, drink spiking for the police, customer care for local government and child safety for the NSPCC.
We have also created informative shows for health conferences, seminars on curriculum change and development, and for training events including training events for youth workers and teachers. All these events and more have benefited enormously from the exciting and entertaining addition of a Chain Reaction performance.

“A big thank you to the Chain Reaction Theatre Company for performing at the West Kent Smoking Conference “Lets Kick Some Butt”. Your performance was extremely well received,
with lots of positive feedback from delegates requesting further details about your work.”
Tracy Bishop, Public Health Officer, West Kent Health Authority

EXAMPLES OF OUR CORPORATE WORK

Below are some examples of how we have helped different types of event achieve memorable successes!

Food & Low Income

Working in partnership with Shropshire Health Authority, Chain Reaction produced three ten-minute sketches exploring the myths surrounding food and low income, to be performed at ‘Poverty Bites’, a Food and Low Income seminar. The event aimed to highlight the barriers to healthy eating experienced by individuals and families on low income. Each sketch delivered a specific message and performances were staggered throughout the day to keep the audiences engaged and focused.

Chain Reaction performed to an audience of 80 delegates including health workers, nutritionists, managers from major supermarket chains, youth workers and professionals with an interest in, or responsibility for, food issues, and were a big hit with all attendees!

“I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the team at Chain Reaction for the
brilliant sketches you performed at the ‘Poverty Bites’ seminar. Not only were they
funny and entertaining but they also conveyed the messages, in exactly the right tone.”
Kate McGeary, Shropshire Health Promotion Service, Primary Care Trust

Drink Spiking

Essex Police commissioned Chain Reaction to facilitate a training event designed to promote awareness of the potential dangers of consuming a ‘spiked’ drink. In response, we created a uniquely powerful scenario which provided a backdrop to the whole day, and allowed all parties to deliver their important messages in a truly memorable way.

Chain Reaction set up a mock courthouse with our actresses playing the roles of a judge, a court marshall and a victim of sexual assault following a drink spiking incident. Once the ‘victim’ had given her evidence, speakers from the Metropolitan Police ‘Sapphire’ Team, the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, the Roofie Foundation, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, Chelmsford Police Crime Reduction Team, the Forensic Science Service, and a lawyer, all gave their perspectives on tackling the issue of ‘drink spiking’.

The event was a huge success with the audience of 175 members of the licensing trade, local authority staff, police officers, and those who support victims and potential victims of this crime.

“The event has received high acclaim as one of the best events ever attended with the mix between drama and information being struck at the right balance.”
Sgt. Nigel Dermott, Substance Misuse and Youth Co-ordinator, Essex Police

Alcohol

Working in partnership with Shropshire Health Authority, Chain Reaction devised and performed four tailor-made sketches, to underline key messages about alcohol including:

  • Introduction to alcohol
  • The effects of alcohol in the home, covering domestic violence and the effects of alcohol abuse on the family and child
  • Young people and alcohol, covering the legal aspects and peer pressure
  • Alcohol and the social scene

The performances successfully highlighted and reinforced each message and feedback was outstanding, with all 78 delegates marking Chain Reaction’s involvement as excellent.

Cervical Cancer

Waltham Forest Primary Care Trust commissioned Chain Reaction to write and devise a fifteen-minute production for a conference aimed at pharmacists based in Redbridge and Waltham Forest. The purpose of the production was to help delegates develop appropriate ways to encourage their customers to undergo regular smear tests with the aim of reducing cases of cervical cancer. The performance demonstrated various ways in which pharmacists could approach their customers about regular smear testing, and proved to be the perfect way to deliver this message and break down any fears that pharmacists had about causing offence by broaching this intimate subject.

Mental Health

Chain Reaction were engaged by the Shropshire County Primary Care Group to research, devise, write and produce an original fifteen minute piece of theatre to help improve the service received by mental health patients at the first point of contact.

The brief we were given was clear: patients accessing support or care for the first time can be unstable and feel vulnerable, scared or ashamed. As such, it is vital that they receive a warm welcome to their healthcare facility and do not feel that reception staff or General Practitioners are judging them, looking down on them or belittling their problem. Working from this brief we created a lighthearted but emotionally engaging dramatic illustration of the importance of treating every patient with respect and dignity, regardless of their problems or issues.

The show played to a total of 750 GPs and surgery staff over three conference dates, and had a valuable impact on their opinions and working practices.
